Information about the Project

Project was coordinated by the Technical University of Dresden, and its main objective was to establish and manage industrial-scale plantations of fast-growing tree species in Central and Southern Europe as an example of the sustainable and innovative use of economically unprofitable land.

The goal of our participation in the project was to assess the impact of fast-growing tree cultivation on the biodiversity of plant and animal species in southwestern Slovakia. We carried out this task by recording the occurrence of plant and animal species at all sites and by conducting more detailed monitoring of bird, amphibian, butterfly, and beetle species at selected sites with fast-growing tree species over the course of four growing seasons. We then analyzed the collected data in relation to abiotic characteristics, management measures, and adjacent habitats.
